It says Around Town but the headline is UTAH. Utah is not near Natick!! I think everyone should notRead More open an article on Patch unless they see their town's name in the headline. So If it doesn't say Natick, then we all know it is not LOCAL to the Natick Patch. The less clicks these Patch sites get, the fewer advertisers they will get and then perhaps they will realize if we want sensational news from across the country we'd go back to Patch's former owners AOL and the HuffPost! Those here from other Patch sites - I think you should do the same only click on articles that mention your community's name. No name. No click!

Let's look at the numbers. They say 43.8 Million cars cross the bridge each year... Lets divideRead More that in half to only count tolls paid. At $5 per car thats $ 109.5 million !!! every year !!! Do you want to know where it goes ?---- CalPERS --- in lavish retirement & Health Benefits. Both the Union and management are soaking the public. I'm shocked. The next time you pay the toll just think of the guy sitting in his condo in Florida with a great retirement and a health plan that he pays nothing for... That's where your hard earned cash is going. Enjoy !!

That's only one Bridge !
Mike April 8, 2014 at 11:47 am
A recent TV news report revealed that 50% of the Toll collected on the Golden Gate Bridge is used toRead More subsidize bus and Ferry services for Marine County commuters. Assuming that report is accurate I do not think that bridge toll should have been increased. I do not believe that tolls should be used to subsidize the use of public transit by people who choose to live in an area that requires them to commute to work? Yes, I think that using public transit is a great idea. Yes, we should use it whenever we can. However, why should I or anyone who may use the bridge occasionally be forced to pay a toll that subsidizes commuters from affluent Marin County? There should be consequences for the choices we make and others should not have to pay for the personal decisions of others. For example, for eight years I chose to live in San Jose while working in South San Francisco. I made that choice because for me owning a home in San Jose was more affordable. Prior to making the move I had to consider all things especially the cost of driving my own car, taking the train etc. Because of my work schedule the train or any other form of public transit was not a viable option. So, I downsized from my preferable car of choice to an economic vehicle with great MPH. I also began to search for people who may want to start a ride-share or drive-share carpool. As our country moves to a more Socialist form of government I expect that we will see even more of this sort of thing. Hopefully, the cost will not get to high. Many years ago I knew a man who once lived in a country that was under Communist rule. I have found that man to be very wise person. One day back when I was a teenager I was complaining about having to pay the consequences for my behavior. It was then that he advised me of one of the changes that he experienced by coming to his adopted nation (USA) and he said that he was particularly happy with it. What he said was, “when you live in a free society you get to make choices in which you will either reap the harvest or suffer the failures of those decisions. I may not always like being held accountable for my decisions but, I do like being able to make them”.

Attn: John Yes, I do remember being quite "peeved" about that in years past as well. IRead More agree that they should at least give us the 3 major holidays and let us have reasonable fires. John Negley March 12, 2014 at 04:44 pm
I hear you! I get particularly peeved when the wind is blowing from the east out to sea and we haveRead More a no burn day. Living blocks from the ocean coastal communities should not be lumped into the greater bay area. This year I really dug into the data, looking at the projected AQI that they set and base no burn days off of vs what actual numbers came in at. Almost every time their projected AQI was well over the actual number, and not by a little, by 20-40 points or more. The majority of the Spare the Air days called did not turn out to have an AQI over 100. I believe KPIX did a story on this? Any one location over a 100 AQI projection triggers a spare the air day the next day for the whole of the Bay Area, from Santa Rosa to South San Jose. There were days that Santa Rosa would have a projection of 103, for example, no-where else would be over 100 and they would call a Spare the Air day for the whole of the Bay Area. Then the actual numbers would come in and Santa Rosa would top out at 89. Below the trigger. It happened consistently all season long. I started posting the actual numbers on Spare the Air's page and calling them on it. Funny how they would respond to many other posts, but never mine. They falsify their data to fit their agenda, and since it is a "projection", when they are wrong, just chalk it up to being "better safe than sorry". Meanwhile we pay more for heating.

Chris - Most energy drinks can be bad for you. Look at the amount of servings that are in a can, aRead More large can will have up to 4 servings. Most everything in moderation is fine. But when you, and more importantly a kid weighing 60 lbs drinks 4 servings of an energy drink all at once, bad things can happen. It is why Monster and Rock Star come under scrutiny and why Red Bull with their small cans flies under the radar. I enjoy an energy drink now and again as a pick me up, but tend to keep to Red Bull because of the serving size.

I was very happy to see this posting and also the one a few weeks ago, as this is about awareness.Read More There are so many people, including doctors, who don't understand Lyme Disease, the symptoms and how devastating it can be if not diagnosed and treated properly. Lyme is often misdiagnosed as the symptoms mimic many other diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis, MS and Lupus which can lead to devastating consequences. If Lyme is caught early, you have a bulls eye rash and are treated with a 6-8 week course of antibiotics, you will most likely not suffer any residual effects. If it is not caught early, it can change your life forever. Many people don't get the telltale rash and don't even know they have been bit. So many doctors in California are not educated on the symptoms which can lead to being misdiagnosed and put on medication that allows the Lyme bacteria to spread. Sorry for the long post, but Lyme is much more common than you think, and the numbers keep growing. And speaking from experience, is very painful and very difficult to treat when it becomes chronic. I am one of thousands in the Bay Area that have the disease and it has most definitely changed my life. Education and awareness is key.
