This Boy Thought He Had No Friends. Now the Entire World Is Wishing Him Happy Birthday

A Michigan mom created a Facebook page for the entire world to wish her son, Colin, happy birthday. He turns 11 on March 9.

Colin, an 11-year-old boy in Michigan, used to eat lunch alone every day.
Now he has 325,000 friends — on Facebook.

Colin's mom started a "Happy Birthday to Colin" page after she asked him if he wanted a birthday party and he responded that he had no friends, the Facebook page says.

I created this page for my amazing, wonderful, challenging son who is about to turn 11 on March 9th. Because of Colin's disabilities, social skills are not easy for him, and he often acts out in school, and the other kids don't like him. So when I asked him if he wanted a party for his birthday, he said there wasn't a point because he has no friends. He eats lunch alone in the office everyday because no one will let him sit with them, and rather than force someone to be unhappy with his presence, he sits alone in the office. So I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words, that would be better than any birthday party. Please join me in making my very original son feel special on his day.

The page quickly brought international attention and Colin has new friends from all over the world.

Please share this story and invite everyone you know to make Colin's 11th birthday one to remember.

Well, this looks like a typical human interest story to me. As I've always been a bit of a loner, I do sympathize with the boy, as I often ate alone at lunch, but Facebook usually does more social damage as we've all witnessed over the past decade. I only hope the boy's head doesn't fill with balloon helium.

I hope that the birthday wishes brought him great joy---if only for a moment. He has a long road ahead of him--and so does his mom. I would know.....

Trending topics from other states, and now Upworthy titles to boot? The Patch is rapidly losing its relevance and appeal.

1,000,000 facebook "friends" is not equal to a single real friend. So the kid "acts out"? Maybe professional help is in order....

How come no teacher sat with him at lunch for a day or two to encourage other children to talk with him?

Wonderful , yet she does nothing to involve him in real life situations. He is a school shooter in the making. To Mom , get him involved in real life activities , Please , I beg you.
