After 22 years with The Tonight Show, Jay Leno has said goodbye to the late night show… again.

Leno has hosted the show for years — except for a brief stint in 2009 when he was let go and replaced by Conan O’Brien — after taking over for Johnny Carson.

He has called the gig as Tonight host “the greatest 22 years of my life.”

Watch the video above to see Leno’s final monologue, in case you missed it Thursday night.

The Tonight Show will move to New York City with a new host — Jimmy Fallon.

"I'm really excited for Jimmy Fallon. It's fun to be the old guy and see where the next generation takes this great institution," he said. "And in conclusion, I want to quote Johnny Carson: 'I bid you all a heartfelt good night.' "

Will you miss Jay as host of Tonight? Or do you think it's time for a new host? Tell us in the comments below!

Let's face it, Leno was forced to give up the show. NBC pared down his staff and cut his salary. He'll always rank in the top three behind Allen and Carson and left at the top of his game. We'll miss the opening monolog with his biting spin on politicians and celebrities, the head-lines, photo-booth, absurd inventions and Jay-walking which focused on the embarrassing lack of education of our students. ... Fallon brings in an entirely new game and time will tell if he is successful .

I think Fallon will be great and I'm excited to see what he does with the show. I only watched Leno based on the guests he was having. Fallon attracts a young audience that loves to share his work and the videos he creates are always entertaining and often have a viral reach. The version of Wrecking Ball that Jimmy and the Roots did with Miley is actually really, really good, even though I don't otherwise listen to her.

I STILL MISS JOHNNY CARSON, JAY LENO WAS GREAT. I WILL PROBABLY SWITCH TO DAVID LETTERMAN, FALLON IS VERY TALENTED BUT I CAN'T STAND HIS LITTLE THANK YOU NOTES !

Watched the monologues and some bits. Not much else since celebs pushing movies and books and talking about their children really doesn't do it for me. Letterman always looks like he has nothing but contempt for his audience, and Jimmy's making fun of his mexican sidekick wears a bit thin after a while. Leno was light, enthusiastic, and amusing. He didn't stir you up so much that you couldn't sleep. As for Fallon, he's had some pretty entertaining bits, but a lot of his show is pretty inept and just not funny. Let's see what happens.

Congress wants us to work until we are 70...then collect SS. Hollywood needs to get with the program of the people THEY support and voted into office. Adding more souls to the employment numbers.

First it was the kids getting a home makeover by NBC home-improvement show. Then the waitress getting a Hyundai from NBC's Ellen show. And, of course, Jay Leno's last night on NBC's The Tonight Show.

Talk show hosts went downhill since Johnny Carson left. Leno was good, and one of the only talk show hosts left with any class. Most television networks are just trash anyway.

Will really miss him.
Leslie Perales Loges February 07, 2014 at 01:43 PM
Ray are you thinking of Conan making fun of LaBamba? Jimmy doesn't have a Mexican sidekick. He has Higgins and The Roots.
steve forte February 07, 2014 at 01:44 PM

Jeanne February 07, 2014 at 01:56 PM

Saw him live in san juan n glad he is gone

It is time for him to move on. He has been rather boring for a long time. He and Letterman are long in the tooth and a new breed is needed. Fallon should be a nice change. Time will tell.

Will miss him. He's the only person who could poke fun at someone without making the person feel bad. I'll miss Jay Walking especially.
John Santaella February 07, 2014 at 07:18 PM
Nobody is like Richard Pryor. Who else could make a joke about a naked black man running down the highway on fire? I miss Pryor.

I will definitely miss Jay. He's the only late night host who never went after any one particular star, politician etc.. Whoever was in the news for the day that is what or who became his monologue. As far as Fallon he may end up in the same place as O'Brian. Just say'n.....
Ben February 08, 2014 at 07:08 AM
I will miss Jay Leno, But I will get a better nights sleep, I will not have to stay up until 11:35 PM to see the tonight show. I hope Jay Leno will go to another network, or maybe he woll be in Atlanta for a Comedy Show, I would love to go to it. I hope Jimmy Fallin makes it, but I will not be watching, I have tried several times to get in to his show, but never did. But I wish him good luck.

he can play with his car collection now.
Frediano February 08, 2014 at 10:57 AM
The best part of that opening monologue was the politiciians mugging at the end, and that wasn't Leno.

This has nothing to do with my local community. Why am I seeing this on Patch? I do not care about Jay Leno.
CowDung February 10, 2014 at 11:21 AM
Chris: Not that you'd ever see it reported on Patch, but they gave up on being 'hyperlocal' several months ago when they got rid of most of their local editor staff. Most of their content (most of which is no longer news) now is nationally generated (seems like from New York/New Jersey/Connecticut), and seems to be targeted toward moms...

chris wrote on February 10, 2014 at 01:01 AM "This has nothing to do with my local community. Why am I seeing this on Patch? I do not care about Jay Leno. " I am guessing you have not lived here all that long Chris cause if you had you would know that Jay Leno grew up on Clark Road in Andover, went to Andover High School and still has lots of ties to his local community which is Andover.... that is why it is relevant.
