Public Party Planned For August in Menlo Park

The Mt. Olive Church is hosting a party in Menlo Park in August, so neighbors can get to know each other.

Opha Wray and her friends will be hosting a party in Menlo Park in August that is free and open to the public.

The party will feature interactive games, face painting for the kids, and free food. The food willl be from American and Filipino cultures, include lumpias, hot dogs, and fruits, she said.

"We had a wonderful time last year, so we're looking forward to this year's event," Wray told Patch.

2012 was the first year that Mt. Olive Church members hosted a community building party in the framework of a "National Night Out." A National Night out party is an event held in multiple locations throughout the country that is designed to help neighbors get to know each other and interact with law enforcement officials in a non confrontational environment. Menlo Park Police officers will be in attendance, along with other public safety officials.

The theme of this year's event is "Safety First." Wray said she will be giving away safety kits from the American Red Cross.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. on August 6, 2013 and will end at 9 p.m.

Mt. Olive Church is located at 605 Hamilton Avenue in Menlo Park, California.

Parking is available on the street. While the church does not have a bike rack, Wray said attendees could lock their bikes to the metal railing of the flower bed on the side of the church.
