Menlo Wins WBAL Singles And Doubles Titles

Knights freshman Victor Pham shone.

The Menlo School boys’ tennis team won the West Bay Athletic League singles and doubles championships after the WBAL individual tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at Menlo.

Knights freshman Victor Pham defeated Sacred Heart Prep’s Nick Pizzuti 6-2, 6-2 in the singles finals. Pham had swept Sacred Heart Prep’s Cameron Kirkpatrick 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals, and Pizzuti had topped Graham Keystone of Crystal Springs Uplands 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

In doubles, the junior duo of Michael Hoffman and William Boyd took a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory over Harker’s Derek Tzeng and Chris Chang to earn the doubles crown.

Singles – Final: V.Pham (M) d. Pizzuti (SHP) 6-2, 6-2. Semifinals: V. Pham (M) d. Kirkpatrick (SHP) 6-0, 6-0; Pizzuti (SHP) d. Keystone (CSUS) 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.   

Doubles – Final: Boyd-Hoffman (M) d. Tzang-Chang (H) 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Semifinals: Tzang-Chang (H) d. Chase-McLaughlin (M) 6-4, 4-6, 6-2;Hoffman-Boyd (M) d. Buckley-Lingane (CSUS) 6-3, 6-3
