Menlo School Girls Advance To Semifinals

Junior Maddy Price shone during the game against Mercy-San Francisco.

The Menlo School girls’ basketball team cruised to a 70-47 victory over Mercy-San Francisco to advance to the CCS Div. IV semifinals Saturday at Notre Dame-Belmont.

No. 2 Menlo (18-9) faces No. 3 Scotts Valley (17-10) in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m.Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Notre Dame-Belmont. No. 1 Soquel and No. 5 Sacred Heart Prep square off in the other semifinal at 7:30 p.m.

The second-seeded Knights made it clear that they were ready despite a weeklong layoff after earning a first- and second-round bye in the playoffs. The Knights jumped out to a 21-2 lead during the first quarter and didn’t let up.

Knights junior Maddy Price shot 75 percent from the field and scored a team-high 19 points. She also grabbed 11 rebounds and had five steals.

Menlo senior Lauren Lete sank four of five three-point shots, finishing with 16 points and five assists. USC-bound Drew Edelman also scored 16 and pulled down six rebounds. The Knights got big contributions across the board with senior Maila Bates and freshman MacKenzie Duffner getting seven rebounds apiece and Kaelen Dunn hitting three three-pointers.
