Menlo's Price Advances to CCS Finals

Menlo School sophomore Maddy Price advanced to the CCS finals in the 400-meter run, after eclipsing her personal record and taking the fourth seed Saturday in the section track and field semifinals at Gilroy High.

Price ran in 57.38 seconds shaving nearly a half-second off her PR and winning her CCS heat. She races again at 7 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Gilroy High in an attempt to win a berth to the state meet.

The boys’ 4x100 relay or Heru Peacock, Martin Keyt, Max Parker and Travis Chambers also hit a PR, finishing in 44.36. Peacock took 11th in the long jump with a mark of 20-8, edging West Bay Athletic League champion Nico Robinson.

The girls’ 4x400 relay of Laura Gradiska, Shannon Lacy, Katie Keller and Price had an outstanding performance improving on the team’s PR by over two seconds in 4:06.22. A judging error led Menlo to the wrong lane and another team’s runner was in Menlo’s lane on the second exchange. A collision ensued but no disqualification. Still, the Knights pulled through to take third in their heat and 12th overall.
