Menlo Girls Stomp ND-SJ 5-0

Knights hold on to first place in WBAL.

The Menlo School girls’ soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over visiting Notre Dame-San Jose in West Bay Athletic League.

The Knights entered the match as the league leader, and emerged with a 6-1-0 record (19 points) and are 7-4-2 overall. Sacred Heart Prep (5-1-1, 16 points) handed Woodside Priory (5-1-0, 15 points) a 2-1 loss and took over second place.

 Not only has Menlo recorded its fourth consecutive shutout, it also has outscored its WBAL opponents 25-2.

Menlo opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a penalty kick by sophomore Jaye Boissiere. Fellow sophomore Chandler Wickers placed a 12-yard shot inside the far post after a cross by freshman Alexandra Walker at 23 minutes.

Junior Priya Medberry connected on a 12-yard shot low to the far post off a long cross from Boissiere at 32 minutes.

In the second half, sophomore Lindsay Karle scored from 12 yards out with a strong shot off an assist from senior Elyse Adler at 23 minutes. Then, Wickers beautifully volleyed in a Boissiere cross from 10 yards out at 25 minutes.

Menlo's midfield controlled the ball throughout the match and gave Menlo a 25-6 shot advantage. The Menlo back line consistently wwas first to the ball and limited the NDSJ attack.

Juniors Julia Dressel (four saves) and Kelly McConnell (two saves) earned the shutout. Notre Dame falls to 2-5-1.

Menlo's next match is next at 4 p.m. Tuesday at The King’s Academy.
