Transit Notes: Back to School!

Welcome to the first edition of Transit Notes, a twice-monthly newsletter I'll be sending out to anyone interested in transportation in the Menlo Park City School District.

The first day of school is almost here! I have been very busy all summer in my first months as , preparing materials for back-to-school events, scheduling bike rodeos for September and October and planning events for the rest of the school year.

Here are some coming-soon events you should take note of:

Aug 30: I need some volunteers to help stuff folders with carpool and transit information for students. This will be a morning-long event, but if you just have an hour I can still use your help! Participants will be bribed with coffee, bagels, babysitting and a raffle for and Peet's gift cards!

Aug 31: Some volunteers and I will have transit info available at Arena Check-In at . Stop by to say hi and pick up a brochure.

Sept 4: The three elementary schools will have their back-to-school coffees and volunteer sign-up opportunities right after drop-off. I'll be at the Laurel event. I could still use a volunteer at Encinal's back-to-school coffee to recruit volunteers for bike/ped/carpool events throughout the year.

Sept 12: All parents in the district (and all of San Mateo County) will be asked to fill out a survey about how their kids get to school and their attitudes about transportation. This is required by Safe Routes To Schools and is essential to establishing a baseline and gauging our progress in the future.

Sept 24-28: Bike Safety Week at

Thanks for your interest in making the streets around our schools safer!
