President of Boys & Girls Club of America Visits Bay Area

Nancy Orocio recognized as Youth of the Year.

Leaders of positive change from all over the Bay Area visited LinkedIn this week to recognize the Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year, Nancy Orocio, who attended classes at in Atherton, California. 

Orocio was a member of the Redwood City clubhouse and tutored students at Lower School. 

"I will go to college because I don’t want my mom to be on her knees scrubbing toilets nor my dad to be drilling sheetrock into an old age," Orocio says in her Youth of the Year profile.

"Pursing a college education means taking of some weight off my parent’s shoulders, the same weight today I carry in the form of a backpack.” 

Jim Clark, President/CEO of , joined Peter Fortenbaugh, Executive Director of , and Jeff Weiner, CEO of LinkedIn, in a conversation about the social change the organization is creating among . The event was called "A Conversation with Jim Clark." Clark is the new president and is touring clubs throughout the region. 

"The objective was to give Jim Clark, new president of BGCA, the opportunity to hear from BGCA staff and Board members across the country," said Nicki Sawaya, who helps the Boys and Girls Club publicize their events.  "People submitted their questions and Nancy Orocio, the emcee, read the questions and opened the floor to live questions." 

The organizations have partnered to empower young people from underprivileged communities to become leaders of their generation.
