The following was submitted for publication by Menlo Park's German-American International School:

The German-American International School (GAIS) is pleased to announce that it has received official certification from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) for its Middle Years Program (MYP), grades 5-8. The IBO commended GAIS for a meticulous implementation of its program standards. GAIS is the first and only school in the Bay Area that offers both the Middle Years Program (MYP), grades 5-8, and Primary Years Program (PYP), preschool through grade 4, within a bilingual academic track.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary year, GAIS was the first school in the Bay Area to be certified in the IB PYP and the first to teach the IB PYP primarily in the German language. GAIS began its efforts to obtain the MYP certification in 2010. “It has taken hard work and determination to get to where we are now,” says Dominic Liechti, GAIS Managing Director. “Speaking for myself and the GAIS students, staff, and parent and alumni communities; we are elated and proud to have obtained the official certification from the International Baccalaureate Organization for the Middle Years Program.”

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a rigorous academic program with an inquiry-based approach that enables learning through questioning, critical thinking, research, and problem- solving. The IB is considered by educators and top-tier universities to be a superior academic pedagogy and as a model for gifted education and differentiation across the spectrum. The curriculum instills global thinking, and positive attributes in students such as confidence, creativity, risk-taking, and tolerance. Its programs are increasingly in demand by independent and public schools around the world and highly valued by universities.
