High School District Board Member Resigns, Cites Health, Professional Reasons

Trustee Laurie Frater announced he would be leaving the Jefferson Union High School District Board effective immediately.

At Tuesday night's Jefferson Union High School District Board meeting, Trustee Laurie Frater announced he was resigning immediately.

"It's with mixed feelings I did it, too," he said today.

Frater cites health reasons for his resignation, saying that he got sick six weeks ago and had to cancel many engagements.

"It prompted conversation about my kidneys," he said.

Frater also said he's seeking full-time employment and his time commitment to the board may hinder the job search.

"There were a lot of personal issues, and I thought it was a right thing," he said.

Frater's term as a board trustee ends in November. He said he had already decided not to run again before opting for a resignation.

District Superintendent Tom Minshew said that at the next meeting, the board will need to decide if it wishes to appoint a replacement for Frater or leave his seat open until November's election.

Frater told Pacifica Patch he would email his reisgnation letter for posting later today.

Laurie is a delightful human being with a sharp sense of humor delivered with a lilting Scottish accent. In addition to his school board duties he has kept us laughing in the Asylum improv group, announcing the Fog Fest parade, and even playing the role of the crazed abortionist at the castle tours last month. I trust that he will do whatever he must to take care of his well being and provide for his family, so that hopefully he will be able to contribute to the community in his inimitable style in the future.

As a parent at Terra Nova High School, this information has already gotten to the staff and students. Very unfortunate. According to the board minutes, an employee of Terra Nova made a statement regarding board members' relationships with employees- http://images.pcmac.org/Uploads/JeffersonUnionHigh/JeffersonUnionHigh/Departments/MeetingSchedule/Minutes%20-%205-1-2012.pdf

Thank you skeptical resident for reading between the lines. I am also skeptical and would like to know why The Patch is censoring comments? Seems any comments which addressed what might be the true reason for this resignation were deleted. 14 comments are now 8? I hope to read about it next week in The Tribune!

Kathy, comments containing allegations of criminal activity, which can't yet be vetted, have been removed. Please send me an email at camden@patch.com if you have any further comments or questions. Thanks.
