U.S. Census Data Reveals Menlo Park Has More Male Than Female Super Nerds, But Barely

Population growth also noted within reports.

The population of Menlo Park, California grew four percent this past decade, according to U.S. Census data released late Tuesday afternoon.

Up 1,241 people from 2000, the number that will pop up when you google  “population” and “Menlo Park” is now 32,026. Filtering that by age, sex, and education levels, I discovered a sub population of super nerds, an elite class of 18 to 24-year olds with graduate or professional degrees.

Ladies, I was a bit disappointed to discover that only 30 women fit that description, while 47 men did. That's a Justin Bieber of a difference. Curiously, the males resided primarily in two zip codes, 94025 and 94063, while the women lived all over in 2010. The reason for that could not be acquired by the time of this publication.

San Mateo County experienced little growth as a whole, weighing in with a 1.6 percent population increase since 2000, which is average for counties along the California coast; most grew less than 10 percent. Census workers counted a total of 718,451 people in 2010 countywide.

The State of California's population rose 10 percent from April 2000 to the same month in 2010. It now has 37.2 million people in it, an increase of 3,382,308 people, at least half of whom will be trying to go north on 101 at the same time as me later today.
