Shirley Carlson Proclaimed Super Volunteer

Mayor applauds her contributions to Atherton society.

Atherton City Council publicly recognized Shirley Carlson Wednesday for her positive contributions to society.

"She was observant, always informed before the meetings and truly had concerns about what is best for Holbrook-Palmer Park," said Atherton Mayor Bill Widmer in front of about 30 people in Council Chambers.

Carlson volunteered countless hours to the Park & Recreation Commission and is now the President of the Holbrook-Palmer Park Foundation.

She is credited with co-organizing the annual Easter egg hunt at the park, as well as kickstarting a beautification project in April 2010.

"Ms. Carlson began volunteering at a time when Atherton was having a hard time recruiting volunteers and has become instrumental in engaging other residents in serving on town committees and other organizations," Widmer said.   He presented her with the proclamation, which you can see in the photos attached to these words.
