Paying To Park Downtown

Menlo Park City Council approves parking meters for downtown lots.

City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to install six parking meters in two areas downtown. Four will be installed in the parking lot behind Citibank on Santa Cruz Avenue, while two will be installed in the lot behind the Wells Fargo.

Technically, those are known as parking plazas one and five.

Council members said that the goal is to see if drivers would park downtown for longer than two hours, if given the option to do so.  Businesses such as closed earlier this year, citing an inability for customers to park for extended periods of time as a factor in the decision.

The city will pay $53,364 to the meter making company Parkeon.  The meters will be installed in three months.
