New Parking Rules Unfurl in November

You'll be able to park for up to nine hours in some downtown Menlo Park lots.

Six parking meters are being installed in downtown Menlo Park that will extend parking limits in some areas and reduce them in others.

Four meters were installed in the parking lot behind on Santa Cruz Avenue, while two were placed in the lot behind . Technically, those are known as parking plazas one and five.

“In these lots, patrons can pay $1 to park for an additional hour, for three hours total,” said Atul Patel, Senior Transportation Engineer for the city of Menlo Park.

Prices to park for longer than that will be:

“$1.50 for the fourth hour, $2.00 for the fifth hour, and $2.00 per hour for additional hours thereafter, up to 9 hours,” Patel said.

City Council on July 26 of 2011 to see if drivers would park downtown for longer than two hours, if given the option to do so. Businesses such as  closed earlier this year, citing an inability for customers to park for extended periods of time as a factor in the decision.

The city paid $53,364 to the meter-making company Parkeon; they will be installed this week.
