Evidently Kids Love Going to School in Menlo Park

The Menlo Park City School District's suspension and expulsion rates trended significantly lower than the state and county rates during the 2010-2011 school year.

Only 20 students in the were considered truants during the 2010-2011 school year, according to the State Department of Education's most recent data.

With 2,626 students enrolled in the district, this puts the average truancy rate at .76 percent. Compare this to San Mateo County's average truancy rate of 25.07 percent and the state average of 29.76 percent.  A thoughtful citizen could conclude that students in the district enjoy attending classes.

The school district’s expulsion rate was much lower than the county and state with only two students having been expelled from Hillview during the school year.  The number of students expelled at the county level 289 during that schol year, while 15,930 were expelled at the state level.

As students head back to school this month, school administrators remind parents and guardians to write notes when their child is absent or else the absence will be counted as a truant.
