The City of Menlo Park will not pay the $150,000 a year necessary to keep open; staff cited budget contraints.
Estimates of the park's operating costs range from $200-$400,000, depending on who is asked. City staff say the cost is too much for the city to handle right now, as the city scrambles to reallocate about $3.1 million to counter the dissolution of the city's redevelopment agency.
San Mateo County will pay to keep the park open through June 30, at which point the park's future becomes unclear.
