Menlo Park Hires New Finance Director

The new finance director will commute from San Jose.

Menlo Park City Manager Alex McIntyre announced Friday that he hired Drew Corbett for the role of Finance Director. Corbett will replace Carol Augustine who departed in March.

“Drew is energetic, ambitious and enthusiastic. We’re looking forward to adding Drew’s exceptional public and private sector experience to our talented leadership team and expect his skills will support our goal of continuing to improve Menlo Park’s already excellent financial condition,” McIntyre said.

Corbett, who will be paid $171,000 a year, was previously the City of Sunnyvale’s Assistant Director of Finance, according to his LinkedIn page. He worked his way up the ranks from the position of Budget Analyst for Sunnyvale, which he began in 2005.

Prior to that he was a financial analyst for Intel from 2000-2005.  He taught in Compton, California as a Teach For America educator between 1995 and 1995. He studied political science at the University of the South for his undergraduate degree.  Corbett studied business administration at the University of Wisconsin for his graduate degree, earning a Masters.  He is a board member of the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers.  Corbett seems pleased with his transition up the Peninsula into Menlo Park, even though it means he will be a commuter.

“Menlo Park has a reputation as a well-managed and financially-sound city that provides an excellent level of service to its residents and business community,” Corbett said in a statement.

“I am very excited about joining the leadership team and contributing to the continued success of the organization,” he said.

Corbett, who live in San Jose, begins working for Menlo Park on August 14.
