Facebook Exploring Options for New Headquarters

City Council will appoint two of its members to a group that will help guide the development of the Menlo Park campus.

City Council is scheduled to select two of its members and place them on a committee that will help them decide the specific terms of a Development Agreement between the city of Menlo Park and Facebook Inc.

The social networking company applied to amend an agreement with the city that declares how the land at 1601 Willow Road, which is known as Facebook’s East Campus, can be used.

Earlier this year, that land along with the land at 312 and 312 Constitution Drive, which is known as the West Campus, for a total of 79 acres, according to the city’s website. They will house the company’s employees as it expands.

The staff report prepared by city planners says, “Facebook anticipates seeking land use entitlements for the West Campus and an associated Development Agreement in the latter part of 2012.”

It also says that the company intends to discuss creating “vested rights in project approvals,” and,”address implementation of the infrastructure improvements in the project area.”

The two committee members will help scrutinize the specifics of those improvements and projects and clarify the minutiae to the Council, according to a city staff report.

City Council is scheduled to name the two at the Oct. 18 meeting.
