Council Defers Decision on Land Use Plan

Mayor says final approval wouldn't be made Tuesday night. Unclear when resolution will occur.

City Council was scheduled to hear and discuss recommendations from various Commissions about Tuesday night, according to their meeting agenda.

However, after the San Carlos-Eaton Hills 4H club led the Council in a pledge of allegiance to the American Flag, Mayor Rich Cline announced that the approval of The Plan would not take place that evening.

A staff report implies that this meeting would have been the fourth and final in a series of meetings.

Staff recommended that the Council review process focus on two main things while in session:

"o    Geographic area review
        El Camino Real
(other than ECR SE zoning district)
[deferred from September 13 and 20]
o    Review/wrap-up
        [deferred from September 20]"

Council heard more than a dozen perspectives about ways the plan should be modified Tuesday.

Subsequently they asked technical questions of , Associate City Planner, and other city staff members to elucidate the issues raised by the speakers.

City Manager Glen Rojas sat in front of Rogers, and across the dais from Council Members Cline, Andy Cohen, Kelly Fergusson, Kirsten Keith and Peter Ohtaki.

It is expected that city staff will announce the exact time and date of the next meeting about The Plan at least 72 hours prior to it.  A city staff report says the process should conclude in "Winter 2011."
