City to Review Facebook's Environmental Impact

Menlo Park's city planners and council to peruse the plan for FB's new headquarters.

The Menlo Park City Council will hold a special study session on Tuesday evening to discuss Facebook's plans to expand its headquarters.

Representatives from Facebook and the city planning department will make presentations to the council on , including the maximum allowable number of employees at its "East Campus" at 1601 Willow Road, traffic impacts, and the build-out of a 22-acre "West Campus" on Bayshore Expressway, Menlo Park associate planner Rachel Grossman said.


Members of the public will have the opportunity to speak at the study session, Grossman said.

The social media company is hoping to with a daily vehicular trip cap, which would allow up to 6,600 employees to work at the East Campus daily, Grossman said.

The company is also aiming to eventually open a West Campus with a five-story parking structure and five new office buildings, which would entail rezoning the project site to allow for taller buildings and permits to remove trees.

Neighboring city East Palo Alto has that the company's expansion plans will clog its streets and drive up rents.

Grossman said negotiations with Facebook are sticking to schedule, and that a development plan will likely come before the City Council by mid- to late April.

Tuesday's study session will begin at 6 p.m. in at 701 Laurel St. in Menlo Park.

So happy that story about Google killing the Google Reader app was a joke. Google Reader is myRead More favorite way to read the Menlo Park Patch. Without Google Reader, I would miss all the great articles here.
