Update: Armed Robbery Suspect Used Pellet Gun

Man was charged with robbing five small businesses in one week in unincorporated Menlo Park and Redwood City.

In one week, an armed robber with what appeared to be a dangerous weapon. That weapon, according to the San Jose Mercury News, turned out to be a pellet gun.

Suspect Miguel Angel Caballero, 30, now faces 10 felony charges and a maximum of nine years in jail if convicted rather than the 39 years that comes with carrying an actual firearm, according to the Mercury News.

While the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department and other local officials were in a with the suspect, he still possessed the same pellet gun, and thus will not face any charges because this was not a crime.

The five robberies occurred at the following businesses:

  1. , 37 Willow Street in Redwood City, Tuesday at approximately 7:43 p.m.
  2. , 2940 Middlefield Road, Wednesday at 3:34 p.m.
  3. , 2856 Middlefield Road, Thursday at 1:03 p.m.
  4. , 795 5th Avenue
  5. , 985 2nd Avenue, Tuesday, August 14 at 9:00 a.m.

The robber even pointed the pellet gun at a pregnant clerk’s stomach, according to ABC News.

Caballero is being held on $250,000 bail and will appear on Mon. Aug. 27 in San Mateo County Superior Court on face five counts of robbery and five counts of commercial burglary.
