Rash of Thefts Plagues Atherton

Cars and homes have been broken into in recent weeks in Atherton.

In the past couple of weeks, officers have responded to several calls in north Atherton involving suspicious circumstances, thefts or attempted thefts from unlocked vehicles and residential burglaries. 

At 3:00 a.m. in the morning on Thursday, Aug. 29, an unknown suspect attempted entry into a residence on Cebalo Lane off Selby in Atherton. The suspect broke a window and was scared off by the resident. The attached photo of the suspect was captured on a surveillance camera.

The suspect appears to be a light skinned male wearing a colored jacket over dark colored hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap and dark pants. The suspect was seen riding a bicycle. If you have any information regarding the suspect contact the Atherton Police Department.

Residents are asked to immediately report any suspicious persons or circumstances in their neighborhood to police, and are also reminded to keep their car windows rolled completely up and doors locked when their vehicles are unattended, and never leave valuables in plain view. The same applies to your residence. When leaving your residence, or when asleep, particularly during hours of darkness, make sure that all of your doors and windows are locked, including garages and outhouses.
