Police Name "Persons of Interest" in Cate Fisher and Hugo Chavez Murders

Authorities suspect that the Menlo Park woman and the East Palo Alto man may have been murdered by the same gang.

The East Palo Alto Police Department announced that they have identified two “persons of interest” in the murders of Catherine Fisher, 19, and Hugo Chavez, 26, on their Facebook Page Sunday night.

“The Department believes both murders were committed by member(s) of a violent trio during a crime-spree that spanned from East Palo Alto to Grand Junction, Colorado,” reads the note.

Police identified the three as East Palo Alto residents Jaime Cardenas, 19, Christian Fuentes, 20, and Fidel Silva, 24. These men are also connected to a burglary, a triple shooting, and a murder in Grand Junction, Colorado, according to the note.

Fuentes is in custody, while Cardenas and Silva are wanted for questioning. Police are declining to publish photos of the two until all witnesses have had a chance to give testimony.

They are encouraging people to share any information they have about the cases via the anonymous tip line at (650) 853-8477. Witnesses can also text their tips to (650) 409-7692.
