Police Nab Teen Burglary Suspects

After arrest, the suspects admitted to several Menlo Park break-ins, police said.

Menlo Park police arrested three teenage boys on suspicion of burglary Thursday after officers confiscated stolen property from the trio earlier this week.

At approximately 11 a.m., detectives picked up a 14-year-old Coalinga resident, and two East Palo Alto residents, 13 and 14, on burglary charges and on suspicion of conspiracy. They were later booked into juvenile hall.

The teens have admitted to break-ins on the 100 and 800 block of Laurel Avenue and the 500 block of Pope Street, according to police.

A resident report of a break-in Wednesday on the 700 block of Gilbert Avenue led detectives to the suspects. At approximately 9 p.m., police received the call and officers forwarded the case to the investigating detective.

On Thursday morning, the detective discovered that some of the items missing from the home on Gilbert Avenue were similar to the stolen property that officers pulled from the teens on Monday. He followed up with the suspects, arrested them and they later admitted to the crimes.

Police said "detectives are working to close out these cases" and are hoping to possibly close other standing burglary cases as well.

"The Menlo Park Police Department will continue to take pro-active steps in ensuring the safety of our residents and ask that any suspicious activity be immediately reported to our department," police said in a statement.
