New Deputy Fire Chief Starts in Menlo Park

The Menlo Park Fire Protection District is bringing men out of retirement to manage operations while Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman recovers.

The Menlo Park Fire Protection District appointed Daniel Belville in June to the position of Interim Deputy Fire Chief.

Belville is emerging from retirement to join the Menlo Park FPD and manage operations with Interim Fire Chief Douglas Sporleder while Fire Chief Harold Shapelhouman recovers from an injury.

Belville has served in various roles at fire departments throughout the Peninsula more than two decades. He was most recently Fire Chief of San Mateo and Foster City. He started his career as a firefighter in 1977.

Sporleder appointed him on June 24.  It is not clear how long both men will remain in these positions; the MPFPD does not know when Fire Chief Shapelhouman will be able to come back to work.

Belville starts on July 8, 2013.
