Menlo Park Police To Run Relay Race With Flaming Baton

Menlo Park Police officers will be waiting tables at Stacks Restaurant Thursday to fundraise in preparation for a fiery relay race.

The tips left for the waiters from 9 a.m.-noon on June 13 will be donated to the Special Olympics, which strives to enhance the quality of life people with special needs.

This is an annual event held in conjunction with the Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run that starts June 14.

Police Departments throughout the state will be running a relay race with a torch lit with the “Flame of Hope.” That fire on that torch will be used to light the flames that ignite the start of the 2013 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games.

More than 1,200 people have volunteered to help organize the event, which will be held at U.C. Davis for more than 700 individuals with intellectual challenges.
