Violett brings 26 years of experience to the table, having served as a police officer and captain in San Mateo. Most recently, Violett was the Chief of Police in San Bruno.  He retired from that force in 2006.

“Chief Violett’s broad experience in cities within San Mateo County will be valuable in helping us bridge the gap between outgoing Chief Roberts and a yet-to-be-named chief in the future,” McIntyre said.

On July 6, he was moving to Utah for a new job, which forced the Menlo Park Police force to find an interim leader.  The city manager's office is searching for someone permanent to fill the position.
