Menlo Park Firefighters Extinguish 3-Alarm House Fire in Atherton

Menlo Park Firefighters extinguished a three-alarm house fire Thursday afternoon that started at 117 Alemendral Avenue in Atherton, California and spread.

At 2:05 p.m., Menlo Park Fire Protection District dispatched fire engines and trucks to the scene. The blaze was upgraded to a three-alarm fire within 30 minutes.

The fire involved a garage, the patio and the attic, Fire Inspector John Johnston told Patch. Firefighters prevented the flames from going into the multimillion dollar home. However, they spread from the attic to the trees and brush nearby, sending embers onto the wood-shingled roof of the house next door, 123 Almendral, that started "spot fires." PG&E shut off utilities to homes for public safety. Those are expected to be restored shortly.

The fires were completely extinguished by 4:05 p.m.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. No one was home or injured during the fires.
