Menlo Park Auto Burglar to be Sentenced Friday

Garry Ronald Darnell was found with items stolen from five separate car burglaries.

A man convicted of robbery, grand theft and methamphetamine possession is set to be sentenced in San Mateo Superior Court on Friday.

Garry Ronald Darnell, 27, was arrested in Menlo Park last October after stealing a backpack from an unlocked car. When police apprehended him, he was found to be in possession of items taken in five separate automobile burglaries.

On the night of Oct. 11, 2012, Darnell stole a backpack and purse from a car in Menlo Park. When the owner of the items walked out of her home and saw the burlgary take place, Darnell approached the woman and pushed her to the ground, leaving behind the backpack and wallet.

According to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, Darnell was convicted of multiple counts in May after a five-day trial. He was being held on $90,000 bail.
