UPDATE: Man Critically Injured in Shooting

The 24-year-old man was shot early this morning in an apparent attempted murder.

UPDATE, 12:45 p.m.: Earlier this morning, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office informed us that the shooting happened in unincorporated San Mateo County, and then Patch incorrectly reported that it happened in San Carlos.

The shooting actually occurred in unincorporated Redwood City. Patch apologizes for the error.

A 24-year-old man is in critical condition this morning after suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the head, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

According to sheriff's officials, deputies responded to a home in the 300 block of San Carlos Avenue in unincorporated Redwood City around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The man received treatment at the scene by emergency medical personnel and then was taken to Stanford Hospital. He was listed in critical condition, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to call the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office at (650) 363-4911 or an anonymous tip line at (800) 547-2700.

Are criminals coming into San Carlos because we are an "easy target" ? Our little town is so calm and quiet and full of happy people... I don't see much police presence to deter criminals looking for targets here from neighboring towns...

Pardon the interruption, but the cited location is incorrect. My information comes from San Carlos' police chief. Apparently, the response was to one of the other San Carlos Avenues in the Peninsula area, of which there are a number. - Mark Olbert Member, San Carlos City Council The opinions and perspectives offered here are my own, and do not represent the official position of the City of San Carlos or its City Council.
