Lions Club Honors Menlo Park Police

The Narcotics Enforcement Team busted dozens for distributing drugs in 2012.

The Peninsula Council of Lions honored Menlo Park Police officers for their dedication to halting drug and gang-related crimes.

The officers are in a unit called the Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET), which consists of Sergeant Eric Cowans and Detectives Nick Douglas, John DelMundo and Manny Torres.

The NET was publicly recognized for their service throughout Menlo Park and specifically lauded for reducing drug trafficking activity in the Belle Haven neighborhood and East Palo Alto. They work with the FBI and the San Mateo County Narcotics Task force on high-stakes cases.

The NET Detectives made more than 110 arrests in 2012, most of which were felonies, according to Nicole Acker, Menlo Park Police spokesperson.

Acker said, “NET is a tremendous asset to the overall safety of the community.”

“Recently, NET Detectives were responsible for two major cases that made a tremendous impact within the communities that NET serves,” she elaborated. “These cases were responsible for taking large quantities of narcotics and gang members off the streets, making the communities of Menlo Park and East Palo Alto safer places for all.”
