Highway 101 Reopens After Late Night Car Crash

One of the three cars was engulfed in flames, but all the people inside were able to escape the car, according to authorities.

All lanes of U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Clara have reopened this morning after a crash blocked the roadway for about an hour late Sunday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash, involving three cars, happened just before midnight on northbound Highway 101, just south of Great America Parkway, Officer Peter Van Eckert said.

One of the three cars was engulfed in flames, but all the people inside were able to escape the car, Van Eckert said. Injuries have been reported, but everyone hurt is expected to survive.

A Sig-alert was issued at 12:06 a.m., with the three left lanes closed, he said. When all the lanes reopened at 1:01 a.m., the Sig-alert was lifted.
