Father Sentenced to Jail for Spanking Teen Daughter

Teen tried to escape out a window, but dad yanked her back.

Menlo Park resident Rasheed Brooks, 37, was sentenced to eight months in county jail Wednesday for abusing his 15-year-old daughter.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s office said Brooks would not allow her or her mom to wear pants in the house. As they walked around the home, he would slap them on their buttocks. He would also walk into the bathroom while the daughter showered and force her to watch movies with explicit scenes of a sexual nature with him, according to the District Attorney’s office. Things went on this way for about a year.

On August 2, 2010 Brooks and the teen got into an argument and he grabbed a belt to discipline her. Public records show he hit her almost 30 times, bruising her severely. She tried to escape out of a window, but he yanked her back inside.

Days later, her mother called the police. Brooks pleaded no contest on Jan. 26, 2012 in a negotiation to prevent him from being sentenced to time in state prison.

Brook’s defense attorney, Kevin Allen, said his client’s parents used a belt to discipline him, so he thought spanking was acceptable.

This week, Brooks was sentenced to eight months in county jail, three years supervised probation, periodic chemical testing and $310 in fines.
