DA To Prosecute Man In Fatal Woodside Road Crash

San Mateo County is pressing charges against the man driving the Honda in the accident that took place on I-280 Sunday.

A man is in custody today after being arrested for his role in a vehicle accident on Woodside Road that claimed the life of one and injured two.

Charles Miranda, 25, was driving south on I-280 in a black Honda at about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, according to California Highway Patrol records.  Miranda’s car clipped the back of a Toyota sport utility vehicle, causing it to go out of control and into the center divider, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel. The reason that Miranda allowed his car to touch the other car is not clear at this time.  District Attorney records show that Miranda’s blood alcohol levels were .12%.

The passengers who were in the SUV were taken to Stanford Hospital.

A 32-year-old Redwood City resident saw the accident happen and pulled over to the shoulder of the road in his Jeep.  He ran across the highway through traffic to help, but was struck and killed by an Infiniti SUV, according to CHP records.

Miranda was in court on Monday. He pled not guilty to charges of driving under the influence and causing injury.  His charges come with an enhanced sentence, because the incident in question had multiple victims.  He could face one extra year of incarceration for each person injured in the crash.

His case was continued to August 5.  Miranda is in custody on a bail reduced from $25,000 to $10,000.
