Friends of the Menlo Park Library Say Goodbye

Karen Zechnich is moving.

The Friends of the Library honored Karen Zechnich Thursday morning before she moves on; she is leaving the Bay Area.  In her time as a volunteer, she has been an outstanding leader and innovator.

In two years as Board President, and in her tenure as Board Secretary and Volunteer Coordinator, Karen’s leadership skills have transformed the organization.  Her skills were honed from volunteer work with the local elementary schools and , and as a staff member in the revival of .  She knows the value of having key people doing what they do well, and diligently worked to recruit, train and coordinate volunteers to be part of an effective group.

The Friends of the , long recognized for its tradition and a rich history, benefitted from Karen’s skills.  She added to that rich history of the Friends, by seeing what needed to be done for the 21st century’s demands, including by-laws changes, upgrading accounting procedures, streamlining the Annual Book Fair and Mini Sales and helping to renovate our unique Bookstore.

The Friends in a small gathering in their basement workroom expressed their thanks for her work and inspiration.  All wish her the best in her new life adventures!
