"Bad Biker" Duo Embarks on Cross Country Ride

Two Stanford students took off Tuesday for a 60-day bike ride to raise money for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

Two Stanford University students are setting out this morning on a 60-day, cross country bike ride to raise money for young cancer patients at Stanford's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Nick Abram and Chris Min, both juniors at Stanford, planned to begin their journey this morning at the front entrance of the children's hospital, hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Yuan said.

The pair will ride from the Bay Area to North Carolina, seeking donations along the way to benefit the Bass Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases at Lucile Packard, Yuan said. Neither are accomplished bicyclists, and that is why they have called themselves "the perfect team: two bad bikers battling cancer one mile at a time," Yuan said.

The trip, dubbed "California to Carolina for the Cure," also has personal meaning for both, as Abram's mother died of pancreatic cancer last year and Min lost his grandfather to lung cancer when Min was in the eighth grade, Yuan said.

Their journey will end in about two months in Durham, North Carolina, Yuan said.

Abram is a product design major from Durham, and Min an economics major from Seoul, South Korea, Yuan said.
