VIEWFINDER VIDEO: Pillar Point Marsh

The bird refuge next door.

Just west of Princeton-by-the-Sea and on your way to Mavericks lies tiny Pillar Point Marsh. Fed by fresh and salt water, it is a bird refuge where you may sight up to 20% of North American bird species.

Overseen by Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, the marsh borders the popular trail that leads out to the Pillar Point breakwater, tide pools and Mavericks.

To find it, go to Pillar Point Harbor, take Capistrano Road from Highway 1, then wind your way through Princeton to West Point Road which encircles the marsh and dead ends in a parking lot.

Bring binoculars and take some time to enjoy this small gem.

I loved this...........peeking in on the inhabitants of this little habitat. The flute and drums were a perfect audio for the wonderful and fun visuals. I usually glimpse what is there after parking and head right for the trail. Thank you for the reminder to slow it down to look and see wherever I am. Thank you, Stuart
