Cooking at the Library: Peruvian Causa!

Cooking at the Library: Causa

A Delicious Peruvian Cuisine Event Just for Adults!

The Menlo Park Library is inviting local foodies to attend a free, interactive cooking program just for adults 18+.

On July 19, Peruvian chef Nora Landa Frazier will act as “culinary ambassador” to her home country, where summer is not summer without the traditional potato dish called causa. Adults attending the hands-on demonstration, Q&A, and tasting party will try their hands at creating the popular food that originated in pre-Columbian times, but thrives in Peru today in countless creative, delicious variations.

Lima, Peru native Nora Landa Frazier began her culinary teaching career as an instructor at her own alma mater, the American International School of Lima, where she implemented nutrition courses for her students, who presented their creations at their campus Food Fests. Now a Bay Area resident, Frazier shares Peruvian history through her presentation of very traditional, national dishes.

The special culinary event is part of the Menlo Park Library’s Adult Summer Reading program, which runs through August 9 and offers special programs and prizes to adult readers. Adults who complete the summer reading program will win a cup of coffee or tea donated by Café Zoe & a free book, and will be entered into a drawing for prizes donated by the Friends of the Menlo Park Library. Separate summer reading incentive programs are being offered for children and teens.

The free cooking program is specifically for adults aged 18 and over, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Menlo Park Library. It will take place Saturday, July 19 at 11a.m. in the library’s downstairs program room at 800 Alma Street. For event details, visit www.menlopark.org/library.
