Patch spotlights active charitable organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Patch regularly shines a spotlight on philanthropic organizations that are making a difference in towns along the Peninsula, from Pacifica, to South San Francisco down to Menlo Park and on south.

We feel that giving back to the community is extremely important. That's why our editors to local charitable organizations five days out of the year. The program, which we call "Give 5," also gives free advertising space to local charities. For more information on the Give 5 program, e-mail give5@patch.com.

It is this program that inspired the theme for today's Patchcast: philanthropy. Hence the name, "The Give 5 Edition."
