Menlo Park Opens Grants For Artists

The City of Menlo Park announced Friday that is allocating funds to support artists who want to perform in town.

The city's Community Services Department will be awarding five organizations grants that range from $500-$1,000, which can be used to pay for the rental cost of the Menlo-Atherton Center for Performing Arts.

Anyone in the Bay Area can apply for the grants, said Matt Milde, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Menlo Park.

"While qualifying the applicants, we will give extra preference to organizations with members who live in Menlo Park," Milde said.

This is the second year that the Menlo Park Grant for The Arts Program has been in existence.  It is designed to support organizations who are looking for a professional grade theater in which to showcase their work, Milde told Patch.

2012 Grant recipients include Menlo Park Chorus, Menlowe Ballet, Kepler's, West Bay Opera, and Western Ballet.

Applications will be accepted until June 15, 2013.  For more information about the grants, call the Community Services Department at (650) 330-2223.

The Menlo-Atherton Center for Performing Arts is located at 555 Middlefield Road in Atherton, California. It opened in 2009.
