San Mateo County officials are holding a disaster preparedness day on Saturday and are encouraging residents to attend by offering free entrance to the opening day of the county fair where the event is taking place.
The county's eighth-annual Disaster Preparedness Day is being held at the San Mateo County Event Center at 2495 S. Delaware St. in San Mateo and will feature a free CPR class, instructions on how to put together a disaster kit, and demonstrations by police and firefighters.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and anyone who arrives before 11 a.m. will receive free admission to the county fair for the day, according to county officials.
The opening day of the fair, which runs through June 17, will feature various activities, including a performance by the Oakland-based R&B group The Pointer Sisters.
