Tesla Recalls Model S Part

Some Model S Teslas may contain a defect, Elon Musk announced on his blog June 19, a concern that prompted a recall.

Musk, Product Architect & CEO of Tesla Motors, said that Model S vehicles made between May and June 2013 may have a weak mounting bracket on the left hand latch of the second row seat.

“This reduces our confidence that the left hand seat back will be properly retained in the event of a crash,” Musk said.

People who purchased Model S vehicles that may be affected will be notified soon. Musk said that no regulatory agency brought this problem to his attention and that he is not aware of the piece detaching on any of the cars.

“However, given the paramount importance of safety, we would like to reinforce the left striker bracket on cars produced during this period,” Musk writes.

He said Tesla will send someone to pick up the car and give the owner a loaner Model S, while they enhance the durability of the joint.

Model S vehicles range in price from $62,000 to $87,400, according to Tesla, which has a showroom at 300 El Camino Real in Menlo Park, California.
