Romaine Lettuce Recalled

Packages with these numbers could be contaminated with E. Coli.

Produce company Tanimura & Antle farms is recalling romaine lettuce in California, after learning that the product could be contaminated with E. Coli bacteria.

About 2,000 cases of the product were shipped to states all over the United States, specifically AL, AR, AZ, CA, GA, KS, KY, MD, NC, NM, NV, NY, NJ, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA and Puerto Rico.  Some cases were also sent to Canada.

E. Coli bacteria is usually found in the intestines of mammals and has been linked to kidney failure and diarrhea in children and the elderly.   The contamination was discovered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The potentially contaminated product is the “Fresh Wrapped Single Head Romaine,” which is sold in a plastic bag. The UPC number of this product is 0-27918-20314-9.  It can also be identified by a code on the outside of the case, 5417802151.
