PG&E Purging Pipelines in Menlo Park & Stanford Tuesday

Pacific Gas & Electric will be venting natural gas in Menlo Park, Stanford, and Palo Alto on Tuesday, starting at 6 a.m.

Expect to see PG&E trucks, smell the odor of natural gas, and hear odd noies, PG&E officials warned.

Pipelines will be cleared in four locations throughout the day during a process that may last for as long as an hour. After the crews have vented the lines, they will connect them, and do an additional gas purge.

"A purge is when the work has been completed and the air is pushed out of the line so that they have 100% gas prior to the line being put back into service," according to Menlo Park Police.

The locations where crews plan to release the gas are:

-Sand Hill Road and Branner Drive
-Junipero Serra Blvd, north of Santa Maria
-Foothill Expressway, South of Page Mill Road
-Miranda Avenue and Loop Road

Work is expected to conclude by 9 p.m.
