Facebook 'Eyeing' Digs in Newark, Report Says

The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal is reporting that Facebook Inc. is considering spaces in cities outside of Menlo Park for its campus expansion.

Facebook Inc. is looking outside of Menlo Park as part of its plans to expand its East Bay headquarters, according to a media report.

The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal reported Wednesday that "Real estate professionals say that the social media giant is eyeing space at in Newark."

The report notes that Facebook is considering other locations as alternatives in case its campus expansion plan for Menlo Park falters.

Facebook spokesman Tucker Bounds wouldn't comment directly on the Newark report but told the Business Journal, "It's our hope that Menlo Park and East Palo Alto see the incredible economic benefits to having a good neighbor, like Facebook, join the community. We expect to grow and thrive responsibly in Menlo Park, but it's important for us to evaluate other options in the case that our plans are not fully approved and supported."
