Booming Business: Top 10 Startups in Silicon Valley

It's not all about software anymore. Companies like Jawbone and GoPro are now heavy hitters in the area.

There is huge money in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. Tech geniuses flock to Silicon Valley to start their companies.

LinkedIn, the world's largest job networking site, has compiled its list of the Top 10 InDemand Tech Startups in the Bay Area, "InDemand" meaning destined for billion-dollar valuation.

Coming in at number one on the list is Cloudera, a "big data" software company based in Palo Alto.

Last year's list was strikingly accurate. Of the 2012 top 10, six are now worth between $1 billion and $5 billion and have over 500 employees. The remaining four companies made the list again this year.

See the entire top 10 here:

1. Cloudera, Palo Alto, big data software
2. Dropbox, San Francisco, cloud storage and synchronization
3. Violin Memory, Mountain View, flash memory design
4. Nimble Storage, San Jose, data storage hardware
5. Hortonworks, Palo Alto, big data software
6. GoPro, San Mateo, wearable cameras
7. Jawbone, San Francisco, mobile electronics
8. Big Switch Networks, Mountain View, software-defined networking
9. Pinterest, San Francisco, photo sharing
10. Nutanix, San Jose, virtual infrastructure

Two notable companies on the list are GoPro and Jawbone, who produce physical products rather than operating entirely in the digital space. In 2012, none of the top 10 produced physical products.
