Train Evacuated After Fatal Caltrain Collision

Caltrain traffic is stopped between the Menlo Park and California Avenue stations.

Southbound Caltrain #190 struck a person on the tracks about half a mile south of Churchill Avenue in Palo Alto at 8:40 p.m.

Emergency personnel arrived at 9 p.m.

Caltrain Spokeswoman Christine Dunn said that it was not clear whether the accident was fatal.

@mikegee was on board and tweeted that it was.

"I'll never forget the sound," he tweeted, "Ugh. People on the train are very casual about this. It's quite sad."

Dunn said the agency was establishing a bus bridge between the and the California Avenue stations to transport other passengers who are headed south on later trains.

At 9:20 @mikegee uploaded the photo you see attached to this article via Instagram.

@mikegee said "It was a person, no car involved. They were running straight into the front of the train."
