Single Cougar Spotted in Portola Valley

Emergency officials caution neighbors.

A mountain lion was seen in Portola Valley this afternoon, San Mateo County emergency officials said.

The cougar was spotted near 4575 Alpine Road at about 12:40 p.m., officials said. Residents who see a mountain lion are advised not to approach the animal, especially one that is feeding or with offspring. If confronted by a mountain lion, residents are advised to face the animal, make noise and try to appear as large as possible.

Most mountain lions will avoid confrontations with humans.

So happy that story about Google killing the Google Reader app was a joke. Google Reader is myRead More favorite way to read the Menlo Park Patch. Without Google Reader, I would miss all the great articles here.
